Assam: Gaon Panchayat Secretary Shot Dead in Bongaigaon

Guwahati, 26th June: Tragedy struck in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Wednesday when armed assailants fatally shot Gaon Panchayat secretary Chandrakanta Das as he was returning home from work.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred in Chipansila village, which falls under the Bongaigaon subdivision. Chandrakanta Das was targeted by unidentified gunmen while he stopped his car at a tea stall in Kashidoba village.

Eyewitnesses stated that the assailants approached Das on a two-wheeler, halted in front of his vehicle, and fired at him from close range, resulting in his immediate death.

Following the attack, Bongaigaon district commissioner Nabadeep Pathak and local police personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to investigate. Further details about the motive behind the attack and the identities of the perpetrators are currently awaited as the investigation progresses.
