Assam: Gauhati University Law Student Hospitalized After Alleged Suicide Attempt

Guwahati, September 6, 2024 — Nitisha Bora, Vice-President of the Law College Union at Gauhati University, was hospitalized early this morning following an alleged suicide attempt. Bora, 22, reportedly consumed a significant number of tablets, including antibiotics and antipyratics, around 12:30 AM. She was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in an emergency.

According to Superintendent Abhijit Sarma, Bora ingested three antibiotic tablets provided by a friend. “She is now doing fine,” Sarma confirmed. Medical staff at GMCH report that Bora’s vital signs are stable, and no new issues have arisen. She has undergone gastric lavage and is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation.

The reasons behind Bora’s drastic action remain unclear, with speculation swirling about potential motives. Sources suggest that Bora had previous associations with a senior leader of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), and there are rumors of involvement by this leader, though no concrete evidence has been verified.

Recent reports indicate Bora was involved in personal controversies, including multiple alleged relationships and a recent encounter with a singer, which may have contributed to her distress. The situation is under investigation, and further details are awaited.
