Assam: Gaurav Gogoi Visits Bordowa Satra on Rahul Gandhi’s Behalf, Prays for Peace
Guwahati, 22nd January: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on January 22 made a significant visit to the Bordowa Satra in Assam’s Nagaon district, the revered birthplace of the esteemed Vaishnavite scholar and saint, Srimanta Sankardeva. Conducting the visit on behalf of Rahul Gandhi, who allegedly faced denial of permission by the Satra authorities, Gogoi expressed prayers for peace and goodwill.
Speaking to the media, he conveyed, “I and the local MLA, as representatives of Rahul Gandhi, visited Batadrava Than. We prayed for the peace and goodwill of people. All the priests present inside the temple said their blessings are with Rahul Gandhi.”
Gogoi further clarified the circumstances on his X handle, stating, “On behalf of Shri Rahul Gandhi, I visited the birthplace of Saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to visit Batadrava Than by the police citing law and order pre-scheduled program. The fact is the opposite because there was no program taking place.” The visit coincided with Pran Pratishtha Day, a day of great significance in the religious calendar.
This event unfolded amidst a larger cultural conflict in Assam, where Rahul Gandhi claimed restrictions on his visit to Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Srimanta Sankardeva. Despite challenges, the visit aimed to honor the legacy of this revered figure, emphasizing his contributions to Indian spirituality and culture. Srimanta Sankardeva’s philosophy of neo-Vaishnavism, promoting inclusivity and spiritual devotion, continues to inspire people across Assam and the nation.
