Assam Gears Up for Enhanced Governance with 10 New Co-Districts

Guwahati, Assam – In a significant stride towards bolstering administrative efficiency and public service delivery, the General Administration Department of the Assam government has declared the operationalization of 10 new co-districts, effective from August 15, 2025.

This development, formalized through government notification No. 375037/496 under the authority of the Governor of Assam, will augment the existing network of 39 co-districts already serving the state.

The official notification stated, “It is announced in the interest of public service, that as directed by the honourable Governor of Assam, there will be another 10 co-districts to be functional from 15th August in addition to the 39 already functional co-districts through notification number 458512/76, dated 28/9/2024.”

The co-district system, a strategic administrative reform initiated last year, is designed to decentralize governance and foster better inter-departmental coordination across the geographically expansive and culturally diverse landscape of Assam.
