Assam: Ghilaguri Couple Under Scanner for Allegedly Selling Newborn Twins
Bongaigaon – A disturbing case has emerged from Ghilaguri village in North Salmara, Bongaigaon district, where a local couple stands accused of the shocking sale of their newborn twin babies. The allegations have sent ripples through the community, prompting an official investigation into the matter.
The incident unfolded after Pranab Das and Budu Das, residents of Ghilaguri, were admitted to a private hospital in Bongaigaon city on May 27 for the delivery. Hospital records confirm that Budu Das gave birth to healthy twin infants, and both the mother and newborns were discharged in stable condition, seemingly without incident.
However, upon their return to Ghilaguri, the couple reportedly informed villagers, including Pranab Das’s mother, that the newborns had tragically passed away. They claimed to have performed the last rites as per customary religious traditions, a statement that initially appeared to put the matter to rest.
Yet, a cloud of suspicion soon enveloped the village. Doubts about the authenticity of the couple’s claims began to circulate, with many villagers suspecting that the infants had, in fact, been sold. Concerned by these growing apprehensions, local residents took the serious step of lodging a formal complaint with the District Child Protection Office.
Responding swiftly to the complaint, a joint team comprising officials from the District Child Protection Office and the police department conducted a raid on the couple’s residence. However, Pranab and Budu Das were conspicuously absent during the operation, adding another layer of mystery to the unfolding saga.
The District Child Protection Office has since filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the police, officially initiating a comprehensive investigation. Authorities are now working to unearth the truth behind these grave allegations and determine the fate of the newborn twins.
