Assam: GMCH Introduces Color-Coded Bedsheets for Enhanced Hygiene
Guwahati: In a significant move aimed at improving patient hygiene and operational efficiency, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has implemented a color-coded bedsheet system that corresponds to the weekdays.
This initiative is designed to ensure regular and systematic changes of bed linen, thus enhancing cleanliness and overall hygiene in the hospital.
Dr. Abhijit Sarma, the Superintendent of GMCH, announced the development on the social media platform X, sharing an image of a bedsheet labeled ‘Monday’. He stated, “We have implemented colour coding with weekdays for patients’ beds in GMCH,” highlighting the hospital’s commitment to this new system.
The concept was inspired by a suggestion made on January 21 by Dr. Jitumoni, who tagged both Dr. Sarma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X. Dr. Jitumoni referenced a similar practice used in Kerala government hospitals, where bedsheets are marked with the days of the week to ensure they are changed daily, promoting better hygiene standards.
Dr. Sarma responded positively to the suggestion, saying, “That’s a very good idea. In GMCH, we have color-coded bedsheets. But Kerala’s model looks better.” This move by GMCH reflects a growing trend to adopt innovative solutions to improve healthcare facilities and patient care.
