Assam: GNRC Hospitals Hosts International Neurovascular Workshop and Symposium
Guwahati, Assam – GNRC Hospitals, a leading healthcare institution in Northeast India, recently convened an impactful International Workshop and Symposium centered on Chronic Subdural Hematoma (cSDH) and Neurointervention. The collaborative event, organized in partnership with the Balt Group, brought together a distinguished assembly of specialists and experts from both national and international medical communities at GNRC Hospitals, Dispur.
The workshop segment of the program took place within GNRC’s state-of-the-art neurovascular Cathlab. Here, the focus was on the latest advancements in the management of chronic subdural hematoma, with significant attention directed towards the burgeoning potential of Middle Meningeal Artery (MMA) embolisation. This minimally invasive technique is increasingly recognized globally for its effectiveness in treating this condition.
The evening transitioned into a high-level symposium, fostering a dynamic environment for academic discourse. The session featured engaging live case discussions, presentations on novel therapeutic approaches, and insights into the most recent breakthroughs in the treatment of various neurovascular ailments.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse range of medical professionals representing various specialties across Northeast India. This strong engagement underscored GNRC’s established position as a prominent center for both advanced medical practice and scholarly pursuits.
Esteemed speakers who shared their expertise included Dr. Manuel Moreu Gamazo, an Associate Professor of Neurointervention from Hospital Clinico San Carlos, Madrid; Dr. Firdaus Ahmed, Senior Consultant – Interventional Radiology at GNRC Hospitals; Dr. Naba J Borah, Senior Consultant – Neurosurgery at GNRC Hospitals; and Dr. Abu Shahid Riaj, Consultant – Neuroanaesthesia, also from GNRC Hospitals.
The program also highlighted the significant achievements of GNRC’s Interventional Radiology and Neurointervention Unit. Since its inception in 2011, this pioneering unit, the only one of its kind in Northeast India, annually conducts over 700 procedures and manages more than 1,000 outpatients, while maintaining an exceptional morbidity and mortality rate of under 1%.
