Assam: Goalpara Seals Off Encroached Land in Major Eviction Drive
Goalpara – The Goalpara district administration today launched a resolute eviction drive, successfully reclaiming government-owned land in Baladmari-Part 1 of Rajha village, falling under the Balijana Revenue Circle. The operation, aimed at clearing illegal encroachments, unfolded smoothly with significant police presence ensuring law and order.
The morning saw personnel, aided by excavators, systematically demolish 23 unauthorised shops. These commercial structures, built illicitly, were situated in close proximity to the offices of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the District Transport Officer in Goalpara town, occupying valuable public land.
Adding to the day’s significant actions, the boundary wall of the ‘Roni Plaza’ hotel was also razed. This structure, a known instance of illegal construction on state land, was a key target of the drive, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to reclaiming public property.
An official spokesperson for the district administration confirmed that the demolition initiative was a direct response to the widespread encroachment of public land by commercial establishments. The spokesperson further stated that the operation proceeded entirely without incident, and indicated that similar drives are anticipated to continue in other identified encroachment hotspots across the district, signalling a sustained effort to free up government land.
