Assam: Golaghat SP Accused of Misusing Power in Kaziranga National Park
Guwahati, 22nd December: Golaghat Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajen Singh faces accusations of misusing his authority at Kaziranga National Park. The SP allegedly demanded five tickets for his family’s elephant safari ride, and when the forest official couldn’t provide them due to ticket unavailability, the forest official was reportedly detained by the SP at the police station.
Tarun Gogoi, the forest official, explained, “I informed the SP that it wouldn’t be possible [to provide tickets], as all were sold out and requested to book for the next day.” Gogoi claims the SP responded with threats and disconnected the call, suggesting arrest the next day. The forest official reported the incident to the in-charge of Kohora, Anil Das, who then informed the SP.
Allegedly, the SP called back, threatened to arrest Gogoi, and used inappropriate language. Later, the forest official was picked up by the police at midnight. As tensions rose in the morning, forest officials went to the police station, leading to the release of the forest ranger after four hours.
