Assam Government and Tata Collaborate to Establish Skill Development Centre in Jagiroad
Guwahati, 20th March: In a significant partnership, the Assam government and Tata are joining forces to establish a Skill Development Centre in Jagiroad, aimed at empowering North-Eastern youths with specialized training in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics. Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the decision, highlighting that the centre, located within the premises of the upcoming semiconductor facility, will play a pivotal role in preparing local youths for employment opportunities at the Jagiroad unit.
Already, 1,500 Assamese youths, primarily women, are undergoing training at Tata facilities in Bangalore, with the aim of equipping them for leadership roles once the semiconductor facility becomes operational in 2025. The forthcoming Tata semiconductor facility, valued at Rs 27,000 crore, is expected to position Assam on the global semiconductor map, transforming the economic landscape of East India.
CM Sarma hailed the initiative as historic for the state, attributing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the northeast. He expressed gratitude to Ratan Tata and N. Chandrasekaran for their investment in Assam, underscoring the significant employment opportunities it will create for the region’s youth.
