Assam Government Considers Subsidized Tea for Ration Card Holders

Guwahati, 4th November: In celebration of the tea plantation industry’s 200th anniversary in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to provide tea at a subsidized rate to all ration card holders in the state.

Starting in 2024, the government is considering offering tea to ration card holders at a rate of Rs 100-150 per kilogram.

Assam is a significant contributor to India’s tea production, and the state earns about Rs 3,000 crore in foreign exchange annually from its tea exports.

This move aims to support the iconic tea industry and make this popular beverage more accessible to the people of Assam.

This initiative has the potential to benefit both tea consumers and the tea industry, promoting the rich tea culture in Assam and stimulating its economy.
