
Assam Government Converts 23,956 Contractual Teachers to Permanent Positions
Guwahati, 2nd September: The Assam government on September 2 took a significant step towards enhancing the state’s education system by distributing permanent appointment letters to 23,956 contractual teachers. The letters were handed over by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during a ceremonial event, marking a pivotal moment in the state’s efforts to strengthen its educational framework.
These teachers, previously employed under contractual and state pool arrangements in upper and lower primary schools under the Samagra Shiksha initiative, now hold permanent positions. The event was graced by the presence of Assam’s Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, who served as the guest of honour.
Chief Minister Sarma took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his satisfaction over the fulfillment of the government’s promise to provide 1 lakh government jobs. He further committed to creating an additional 50,000 jobs by May 2025, aiming to bring the total number of jobs created by the state to 2 lakhs.
In his post on X, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of achieving 1 lakh jobs, describing it as a “historic leap towards transparency and merit-based recruitment.”
The Chief Minister’s office also issued a statement, emphasizing that this initiative underscores the Assam Government’s commitment to transparency and merit-based recruitment. It further noted that the achievement includes job allocations in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, reinforcing the government’s dedication to inclusive development across the state.
