Assam Government Disburses Second Installment of ‘Nijut Moina’ Scheme, Benefiting Over 1.6 Lakh Girl Students
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the release of the second installment of the state’s Nijut Moina scheme on November 11, signaling Assam’s commitment to the well-being and education of young girls. In a message shared on X, CM Sarma highlighted the initiative’s goals of preventing child marriage and promoting higher education for girls.
The installment, amounting to Rs 18.39 crore, will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of 1,64,684 girl students across the state. The Nijut Moina scheme provides monthly stipends to female students from Class 11 up to postgraduate levels in government and government-aided institutions. The program was approved by the state Cabinet, with an overall budget allocation of Rs 1,500 crore dedicated to the cause.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the initiative, CM Sarma posted, “Committed to our daughters’ well-being! Today, our girls will receive the second installment of #NijutMoinaAsoni, an initiative to prevent child marriage and encourage higher education.” He reaffirmed that the funds would empower young women to pursue their studies without financial constraints.
The Nijut Moina scheme is an integral part of Assam’s broader commitment to uplift young women, aiming to remove financial obstacles that could hinder their educational aspirations and to deter early marriage by providing continuous support. This initiative aligns with the state’s objective to enhance educational outcomes and empower the next generation of female leaders.
