Assam Government Employee Accused of Rs 7 Crore Job Scam; Arrested for Fraud
Guwahati, 20th September: In a major fraud scandal in Assam, Lohit Das, a government employee, has been accused of scamming individuals out of approximately Rs 7 crore by falsely promising government jobs. Employed in the Sports Department of the Assam government, Das allegedly swindled people across Upper Assam by claiming to secure them positions in various state departments in exchange for large sums of money.
Das reportedly went to great lengths to deceive his victims, even forging the district commissioner’s signature to issue fake appointment letters. The ill-gotten gains from this elaborate scheme were allegedly used to amass properties in Guwahati and other parts of the state.
The scam came to light after victims began lodging complaints, which ultimately led to Lohit Das’s arrest by the Dibrugarh police. This incident has highlighted the alarming trend of unemployment exploitation in Assam, where fraudsters are taking advantage of desperate job seekers. The case also draws parallels with other major scams in the state, such as the Vishal-Sumi online trading fraud.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the full extent of Das’s fraudulent activities and are urging other potential victims to come forward. The case underscores the need for increased vigilance and transparency in employment processes to prevent such scams in the future.
