Assam Government Employees Protest for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme

Guwahati: The Assam Government Employees’ Association recently spearheaded a work strike in Salbari, pressing for the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

The demonstration, which took place at the Salbari Sub-Divisional Office and Shalbari College, saw widespread participation from government employees.

Protesters raised slogans such as “One Nation, One Policy – Our Demand: Old Pension Scheme,” expressing their dissatisfaction with the existing pension structure. They questioned the disparity in benefits, pointing out that ministers and legislators continue to receive OPS benefits, while government employees are excluded.

The Assam Government Employees’ Association has warned that the agitation will persist until the Old Pension Scheme is reinstated. They have signaled further statewide protests if their demands are not met. This development is part of a larger movement, with lakhs of Assam government employees resolving to intensify their agitation demanding the restoration of OPS.
