Assam Government Greenlights Final Delimitation for 81 Villages in BTR

Guwahati – In a significant move set to redefine administrative contours, the Assam Government has formally released the final delimitation order for 81 villages, marking their official incorporation into the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). This pivotal decision signifies a major step in the ongoing restructuring of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The culmination of an extensive consultative process, the final order received the Governor of Assam’s assent after meticulous deliberation with various stakeholders. These villages were incrementally integrated into the BTR through a series of official notifications from the Welfare of Bodoland Department, specifically dated December 31, 2022 (Notification No. E-233475/272), November 6, 2023 (Notification No. E-233475/303), and September 21, 2024 (Notification No. E-233475/387).

Preceding this finalisation, a draft delimitation order was made public for scrutiny, in adherence to Rule 3(2) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (Election) Rules, 2004. Political parties, community organizations, and individual citizens were given a seven-day window to submit their feedback, objections, and suggestions. The comprehensive delimitation exercise was overseen by a designated authority, as mandated by Notification No. E-610598/125, dated June 3, 2025.

Following this, a draft order was officially issued on June 5, 2025 (Notification No. ACS/LW/SEED/COOP/CA/04-A/2025/03). District Commissioners from Udalguri, Tamulpur, Baksa, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Darrang, and Biswanath districts were tasked with disseminating this draft among local stakeholders and compiling detailed reports, incorporating all received observations and recommendations.

Post a thorough assessment of these myriad inputs, the final delimitation order has now been published. It meticulously outlines the placement of all 81 villages within specific constituencies under the BTC framework, with the updated territorial boundaries comprehensively detailed in Annexure-A of the official order. This significant development is anticipated to significantly streamline administrative operations, fortify governance, and enhance developmental outreach in these newly integrated areas within the Bodoland Territorial Region.
