Assam Government Initiates Ration Card Distribution to Over 42 Lakh New Beneficiaries

Guwahati, 11th January: The Assam government announces a significant initiative to distribute ration cards to over 42 lakh new beneficiaries starting on January 16, 2024. The move aims to provide essential support, ensuring access to subsidized food grains and other benefits under the Public Distribution System (PDS). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlights the positive sign in population stabilization indicated by the ration card data.

CM Sarma outlines the distribution plan, with cabinet ministers distributing ration cards in each constituency from January 16 to January 25. He emphasizes the government’s commitment to enhance food security, with plans to make all ration cardholders eligible for the Orunodoi scheme and incorporate an insurance policy.

Eligibility for obtaining a ration card in Assam includes permanent residency and an annual family income of less than Rs 4 lakh. The application process involves furnishing detailed particulars, birth certificates for minors, and relevant proofs. The streamlined process ensures easy access to information and services, facilitating a smooth distribution system.

This initiative reflects the Assam government’s dedication to improving the welfare of residents, particularly vulnerable populations, by providing essential commodities at subsidized rates and offering the dual advantage of an Ayushman card.
