Assam Government Launches ‘Orunodoi 3.0’, Expands Beneficiary List to 37.2 Lakh
Guwahati, 19th September: Assam government launched the third edition of its flagship poverty alleviation scheme, ‘Orunodoi 3.0’, significantly expanding its reach to cover 37.2 lakh beneficiaries through direct cash transfers. This edition marks an increase of over 12.5 lakh beneficiaries from the previous edition, making it the largest state-run direct benefit transfer (DBT) initiative in Assam’s history.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the distribution of Orunodoi Cards to new beneficiaries during a ceremony held for the program’s launch. Under ‘Orunodoi 3.0’, eligible women members of impoverished families will receive Rs 1,250 per month directly into their bank accounts on the 10th of each month.
An official release stated that updating information and improving standards necessitated the phasing out of Orunodoi 1.0 and 2.0, without transferring legacy data, to effectively implement ‘Orunodoi 3.0’. The selection process for the new beneficiaries will ensure that those previously included are only removed if they no longer meet the updated criteria.
The ‘Orunodoi’ scheme, initially launched on December 1, 2020, saw its second edition on December 14, 2022, with the aim of extending support to more individuals.
