Assam Government Merges SEBA and AHSEC to Form Unified State School Education Board

Guwahati, 8th September: The Assam government has announced the merger of the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) into a single entity, the Assam State School Education Board. This change is in line with the enactment of the Assam State School Education Board Act, 2024.

R. C. Jain, IAS (Retd.), has been appointed as the Chairman of the new board for a term of three years or until the age of 70, whichever is sooner. Jain has been released from his previous role as Chairman of SEBA with immediate effect.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted that this initiative aims to modernize and synchronize school education to meet 21st-century needs, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Sarma emphasized that the new board will elevate the state’s education sector to new heights.
