Assam Government Mobilizes Public Relations to Amplify ECI’s Duplicate EPIC Resolution Drive

Guwahati: The Assam government has issued a directive to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, mandating the extensive dissemination of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) plan to rectify the persistent issue of duplicate Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. This initiative signals a concerted effort to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the state’s electoral rolls.

According to a press release from the ECI, the commission has committed to resolving all identified instances of duplicate EPIC numbers within a three-month timeframe. This decisive action underscores the ECI’s dedication to eliminating inconsistencies that could potentially compromise the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.

To ensure comprehensive public awareness, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations has been tasked with publishing the ECI’s press release across both electronic and print media platforms. The government aims to reach a broad spectrum of the population, thereby fostering greater understanding and cooperation regarding the rectification process.

In addition to widespread publication, the department has been instructed to compile and submit detailed documentation of the media coverage. Specifically, electronic media coverage is to be submitted in PDF format, alongside physical newspaper clippings, to the government office by 2 pm on March 8. This submission is crucial for meeting the ECI’s deadline of March 9 for receiving these documents.

The ECI’s push to eliminate duplicate EPIC numbers is being lauded as a pivotal step towards streamlining the electoral process in Assam. This initiative is expected to significantly bolster the credibility of voter identification, ensuring a more accurate and transparent electoral system for the state.
