Assam Government officials accused of fraud in housing scheme in Salbari
Guwahati, 24th March: Government officials and employees in Salbari, Assam, stand accused of collecting funds under false pretenses related to government schemes.
The allegations revolve around funds purportedly raised for the construction of the Prime Minister’s residence at Narasimhabari. Beneficiaries claim that Gram Rozgar Sahayaks (GRS) and engineers from the Govardhana Development block solicited money for the Pradhan Mantri Griha Nirman Yojana, a scheme aimed at building houses.
According to Mijing Basumatary, Raman Basumatary, and Nimje Boro of Narsinghbari, the construction of the residence remains incomplete due to funds allegedly siphoned off by government officials.
Reportedly, they were charged Rs. 15,000, despite the actual cost being Rs. 12 for a government house. Furthermore, an additional Rs. 500 was purportedly charged for each GPS photo.
These accusations shed light on long-standing corruption allegations against GRS and engineers, who are accused of exploiting government schemes for personal gain under the guise of constructing the Prime Minister’s Residence.
