Assam Government Opens Online Portal for Inter-District Teacher Transfers

Guwahati: In a move aimed at streamlining the state’s education system and providing relief to its teaching workforce, the Assam government has unveiled a new teacher transfer policy.

This initiative, officially announced by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, will allow teachers to apply for inter-district transfers through a newly launched online portal.

Dr. Pegu, speaking at a press conference held at the Samagra Shiksha office, clarified that this policy marks a significant departure from the previous appointment agreements, which restricted inter-district transfers. The newly introduced system will allow teachers to apply for transfers based on a set of eligibility criteria, offering them an opportunity to relocate for personal or professional reasons. The online portal, designed for this purpose, is scheduled to open its virtual doors tomorrow, and will remain accessible until April 30th.

Eligibility for these transfers has been clearly defined. Teachers who have completed a minimum of ten years of service are eligible to apply. In a provision designed to support differently-abled educators, this requirement is significantly reduced to two years of service. The education department has committed to completing the entire transfer process during the upcoming summer vacation, aiming to ensure a seamless transition and minimize disruption to the academic calendar.

The minister also emphasized the importance of accurate and up-to-date applications. Existing teachers are required to log into their established profiles and submit fresh applications under the new policy. Newly appointed teachers, on the other hand, must first create their profiles on the portal before they can proceed with their transfer requests. This streamlined, online approach is expected to bring greater transparency and efficiency to the teacher transfer process in Assam.
