Assam Government Revises Holiday List for 2025, Adds Key Cultural Festival

Assam: The Assam government has released a revised list of holidays for 2025, introducing significant changes to eight previously declared holidays.

The updated list, issued through a notification by the General Administration Department, reflects the state’s commitment to recognizing diverse cultural and regional celebrations.

The revised list includes a total of 36 government holidays for 2025, along with seven newly designated reserved holidays.

Among the key changes, the Assam Cabinet has approved the inclusion of Ali-Aye-Ligang, a prominent cultural festival celebrated by the Mising community, as a government holiday in 11 districts. This move has been welcomed as a step toward honoring Assam’s rich cultural heritage and promoting inclusivity across communities.

The updated holiday list aims to strike a balance between traditional observances and regional festivals, ensuring representation of various cultural identities in the state. The government’s decision underscores its commitment to fostering cultural harmony and celebrating Assam’s diverse traditions.
