Assam Government Rewards Over 3.60 Lakh Meritorious Students with Bicycles, Scooters, and More

Guwahati, 19th June: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced significant initiatives undertaken by the state government to support and reward meritorious students during the academic year 2023-24. Taking to the microblogging site X, CM Himanta highlighted these efforts under the theme “A look at how Assam is rewarding meritocracy.”

A total of 3,69,454 students across Assam received bicycles, a move aimed at improving access to education and enhancing mobility for students in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, under the ‘Arohan’ initiative, 9,700 students benefited from valuable mentorship programs designed to foster academic growth and personal development.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to academic excellence, CM Himanta disclosed that 27,183 meritorious students were awarded cash rewards of Rs 15,000 each under the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award scheme. Furthermore, to alleviate financial burdens, fee waivers were extended to 17,19,306 students statewide.

In a bid to further facilitate student mobility and ensure seamless access to educational institutions, 35,770 students were provided with scooters.

CM Himanta expressed his satisfaction with the widespread implementation of these initiatives, emphasizing their role in promoting educational opportunities and supporting the aspirations of Assam’s youth. The measures underscore the state government’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a conducive environment for academic achievement.
