Assam: Government School in Sribhumi District Faces Unofficial Closure, Sparking Concern
Guwahati: Sribhumi district’s 20 No. Serulbagh Lower Basic School has remained non-operational since the conclusion of examinations on March 19, raising alarm over the state of government education in the region. Despite official school hours beginning at 10 am, the premises remain locked, with no sign of teachers or administrative activity.
The sudden closure has drawn concern from local residents and community workers, who fear the disruption may severely impact students’ learning outcomes. According to sources, the school’s prolonged inactivity has gone unaddressed, despite the Education Department’s efforts to enforce staff accountability through a scientific attendance monitoring application. The absence of teachers at 20 No. Serulbagh Lower Basic School, along with similar concerns at 1142 No. Saidpur Lower Primary School, has raised questions about the system’s effectiveness.
Local Anganwadi workers and community members have urged authorities to intervene immediately and restore regular classes. The lack of operational oversight, they argue, risks further deteriorating the quality of education for students who rely on these government institutions.
The situation has intensified calls for the Education Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that teachers fulfill their duties, reinforcing the need for stronger monitoring mechanisms and timely administrative action.
