Assam Government Suspends Five ACS Officers for Disobeying Transfer Orders

Guwahati: The Assam Government has suspended five Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers for failing to comply with official transfer orders and not joining their new postings.

The officers—Saroj Kumar Deka, Kabyashree Dihingia, Jintu Sarma, Kongkan Jyoti Saikia, and Parishmita Dehingia—were suspended for violating a government directive, which was deemed detrimental to public interest.

Among the suspended officers, Kabyashree Dihingia, who had served as the Election Officer in Baksa, was transferred to Dima Hasao. However, she did not report to her new assignment and instead requested to be removed from the Election Department altogether.

Her failure to join the new post led to her suspension under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964. During her suspension, her headquarters will remain at her last place of posting.

Similarly, Saroj Kumar Deka, who was posted to Majuli, also failed to comply with the transfer order. He requested to be assigned closer to Guwahati for personal reasons, which disrupted office decorum and led to his suspension under the same rule. His headquarters, like Dihingia’s, will remain his previous posting location until further decisions are made.

The Governor of Assam has approved the suspensions, emphasizing the need for discipline and order within the state’s public service. Departmental proceedings will be initiated against the suspended officers. The government has reiterated that adherence to transfer orders is essential for maintaining public interest and ensuring proper office functioning.
