Assam Government Takes Major Steps to Implement Clause 6 of Assam Accord

Guwahati, 7th September: In a significant development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined the state government’s progress on implementing Clause 6 of the Assam Accord during a media briefing in Dispur on Saturday. Sarma revealed that the government has approved 57 key recommendations and has prepared detailed guidelines for their enforcement.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s determination to enhance measures against Bangladeshi infiltrators. “We will fortify the second line of defense,” Sarma stated, underscoring the need for stricter border security and more efficient identification of illegal immigrants. The Assam government is expediting the process of identifying suspected foreigners, particularly addressing issues such as unauthorized Aadhar enrollments that exceed population figures.

Sarma also highlighted that some recommendations will undergo further discussion with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU). He announced a series of upcoming talks between the state government and the student organization, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to engaging with various stakeholders. “The Assam government remains dedicated to resolving this issue,” Sarma concluded, reaffirming the state’s resolve to address concerns related to Clause 6 and improve border security and immigration control.
