Assam Government to Continue Eviction Drive, Samaguri Next in Line
Guwahati: The Assam government is set to escalate its ongoing campaign against land encroachment with a fresh eviction drive slated for the Samaguri area of Nagaon district. This impending operation follows closely on the heels of a significant clear-out in Uriamghat, Golaghat, signaling the state’s continued resolve to reclaim illegally occupied public lands.
On Friday, the Revenue Circle Officer of Samaguri issued an official eviction notice to residents of Belguri Kachari village, located within the Khatowal mouza. The notice directs immediate vacation of government plots that have been encroached upon.
The official communication specifies that the encroached areas include multiple parcels of land designated as government “grazing reserve” areas. These lands, identified under survey dag numbers 3, 528, 506, 505, and 604, are earmarked for public utility and environmental preservation but have reportedly been illegally utilized for agricultural purposes by local settlers.
Authorities have cautioned that non-compliance with the notice will lead to eviction being carried out strictly according to government norms and legal provisions. The notice underscores that stringent measures will be employed if encroachers fail to vacate the premises voluntarily.
In recent months, the state has witnessed similar eviction drives across various districts, which have at times sparked local resistance and drawn political criticism.
