Assam Government to Cover College Admission Fees for Low-Income Students

Guwahati, 26th June: In a landmark initiative, the Assam government has announced it will cover the admission fees for college students whose parents’ annual income is below Rs 2 lakh. This measure, estimated to cost approximately Rs 150 crore annually, aims to ease the financial burden on economically disadvantaged families across the state.

The funds for this scheme will be disbursed directly to colleges in July, ensuring that eligible students are exempt from paying admission fees. This initiative is set to benefit a substantial number of students from low-income backgrounds, allowing them to pursue higher education without financial constraints.

To further support students, the government has established channels for those encountering issues during the admission process. Students are encouraged to seek assistance and guidance from their respective Deputy Commissioners (DC) or the Education Department.
