Guwahati — Assam’s anti-corruption campaign has led to the recovery of Rs 7.8 crore and the arrest of 256 individuals involved in corrupt practices, as per data released by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption.
The state administration has registered 207 trap cases since the campaign began in 2021, targeting bribe-seeking officials and their intermediaries.
The majority of those arrested, 236 individuals, were public servants, while the remaining 20 were middlemen who facilitated corrupt practices. These figures underscore Assam’s intensified crackdown on corruption within public institutions.
“Corruption has no place in our society, and we are taking decisive steps to eliminate this evil from Assam,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted in a social media post, reaffirming his commitment to rooting out corruption.
Alongside sweeping policy reforms, the anti-corruption unit has employed a proactive approach, laying traps to apprehend officials involved in bribery and misuse of power.
The ongoing campaign is one of the most vigorous anti-corruption efforts undertaken by the Assam government, aiming for a “Corruption-Free Assam.” Vigilance operations, carefully orchestrated to catch officials in the act, are set to continue as the government maintains its focus on transparency and accountability in public service.
