Assam Governor Declares Local Holiday on March 15 for Dol Jatra Festival
Guwahati: The Governor of Assam has declared a local holiday on March 15, 2025, in the Kamrup (Metro) district to celebrate the Dol Jatra (Holi) Festival.
As per the official notification, all state government offices, educational institutions, and financial institutions in the district will remain closed on the designated day, in line with the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
Dol Jatra, also known as Dol Purnima, is a significant festival celebrated in Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, and other parts of Eastern India. The festival is observed on the full moon day of the Phalguna month, marking the worship of Lord Krishna and Radha. Devotees take part in processions, sing devotional songs, and engage in the playful tradition of throwing abir (colored powder).
The declaration of the holiday ensures that residents of Kamrup (Metro) can immerse themselves fully in the celebrations, promoting cultural heritage and community festivities.
