Assam Governor Declares November 1 as Diwali Holiday in Kamrup (Metro), State to Advance Salary Payments

Guwahati: In a festive gesture, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has declared November 1 as a local holiday in the Kamrup (Metro) district, allowing state government offices, educational institutions, and financial institutions to remain closed in observance of Diwali.

The official order, citing Section 25 of the N.I. Act, 1881, ensures that all institutions within the district, including financial entities, will halt operations for the day, aligning with a Ministry of Home Affairs directive.

In addition to the holiday announcement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the state government would credit salaries to its employees starting October 28, ahead of the Diwali festivities. This move aims to ease financial planning for government employees during the festival, allowing for more relaxed and prepared celebrations. The advance salary payments have been widely appreciated by state employees, who view it as a thoughtful gesture from the government.

Diwali, widely celebrated as the Festival of Lights, is a time for joy and togetherness across India, and Assam’s initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to enhancing the festive experience for its employees and residents.
