Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya Emphasizes Nation-Building Role of Civil Services, Launches Initiatives for Aspiring Candidates
Guwahati, Assam – Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya underscored the vital role of civil services as a pathway to serve the nation, describing it as a “sacred mission” to foster a welfare state.
Speaking at a guidance session for selected candidates under the Pratibha Protsahan Yojana at Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU), the Governor highlighted civil servants as essential links between the government and the public, facilitating the implementation of welfare policies.
During the event, Governor Acharya inaugurated a 12-foot bronze statue of Krishna Kanta Handique, the university’s namesake, and paid floral tributes in his honor. In collaboration with the State Bank of India, the statue was installed at KKHSOU’s Guwahati campus. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, he also planted a sapling on the university grounds to further promote environmental consciousness.
Reflecting on the Pratibha Protsahan Yojana, Governor Acharya stated, “When our youth dream of serving the motherland, we must take responsibility to provide them opportunities to fulfill that dream. Through the Governor Assam’s Pratibha Protsahan Yojana, we offer high-quality coaching and mentorship to boost confidence and help Assam’s youth realize their goals.” The initiative provides financial support, guidance, and preparation resources for candidates gearing up for the Assam Civil Services Examination, helping shape both their futures and the future of Assam.
In addition to encouraging the students to uphold a “Nation First” mindset, Governor Acharya urged them to preserve and celebrate India’s heritage, culture, and values, advocating for the revival of traditional glories while modernizing education and technology. “No force can stop the youth who move forward with a ‘Nation First’ mindset from contributing to their motherland,” he remarked.
Governor Acharya also praised the teachers, officials, and institutions involved in supporting Assam’s youth, stressing that character development and strong values are instrumental to success in competitive examinations. He acknowledged the contributions of mentors like Simmi Karan (IAS), Aranyak Saikia (IAS), Aditya Vikram Singh (IAS), and Amit Mahto (IPS), whose dedication guides students in their civil services pursuits.
Launched in honor of *Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, the Pratibha Protsahan Yojana seeks to empower Assam’s youth by offering mentorship, financial assistance, and preparatory coaching. The initiative’s screening test took place on October 20th in Guwahati, Bongaigaon, Jorhat, and Silchar, signaling the start of a unique program that, according to Governor Acharya, will strengthen the foundation for a developed India by 2047.
In his closing remarks, Governor Acharya motivated the candidates to approach their preparation with unwavering commitment, believing that they can become the pillars of the state’s and nation’s future as responsible and dedicated civil servants.
