Assam Govt : Car Pool Service for Private Vehicles

Guwahati: The Assam cabinet agreed on December 15 that private vehicle owners can now operate their vehicles as UberPool, OlaShare, or an aggregator without altering the number plates.

It should be noted that, in addition to Ola and Uber, the bike-taxi service provider Rapido has captured a significant market share.

As a result, the Assam state government has decided to establish regulations for riding two-wheelers on the road.

“From now on whosoever has a two-wheeler can now avail to make a maximum of four trips in a day even with a private number plate provided they tie up with taxi rental service providers,” said Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Further, the CM said that this will allow students as well as others to generate an extra money from their usual duties.

In addition, the state government has authorised citizens to use carpooling services.

“I have a private car and while travelling to the office now one can pick up four people as passengers…which can be termed as pool service,” he added.

Private car owners will now be able to link their vehicle to the Ola/Uber service with a statement such as – the car is available at 10:00 AM and returning at 5:00 PM, so that the service provider can connect passengers with the said vehicle.
