Assam Govt disposes 2479 Rhino Horns

Guwahati: The Assam Government has burnt 2479 rhino horns on Wednesday in Golaghat District.

Six giant gas furnaces, each with three tiers were placed to burn these horns that have been preserved for years.

As per the government, the rhino horns were burnt to dispel myths about their usefulness and prevent poaching.

It may be mentioned that on September 16 the State Cabinet decided to dispose of 2479 rhino horns out of 2623 rhino horns in public.

The cabinet further decided that 94 of the 2623 horns examined by the high-level committee will be preserved as heritage objects for academic purposes and 50 for court cases.
