Assam Govt Extends Scooty Scheme to Coaching Students for This Year
Guwahati: The Assam government has made a one-time exception to its education incentive programme, allowing Higher Secondary graduates currently enrolled in coaching institutes to receive free scooties this academic year.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in an official announcement on Twitter, stated that students preparing for competitive exams at coaching centres would now be eligible for the two-wheeler scheme, provided they meet the existing academic performance criteria.
However, this policy shift is temporary. Starting from the next academic year, only students pursuing regular college courses will be eligible for the scheme. The government has also clarified that students who take a gap year before enrolling in higher education will still be eligible once they officially join a regular course.
The decision marks a significant change in the state’s approach to supporting post-secondary education choices, acknowledging the growing number of students opting for dedicated coaching before entering college.
“Students who join regular courses after a gap year will also become eligible for the scooty upon enrollment in a regular course,” CM Sarma tweeted, reinforcing the government’s commitment to facilitating education and mobility for students across Assam.
