Assam Govt Hikes Daily Wages Of Tea Workers By Rs 27
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Wednesday that an increase of Rs 27 in the daily wage for workers in tea gardens.
The new daily wage for tea workers would be Rs 232 in the Brahmaputra valley and Rs 210 in the Barak valley as a result.
The chief minister shared that the decision was taken after a discussion with representatives of Indian Tea Association, NE Tea Association, Tea Association of India, Bharatiya Chah Parishad, Assam Tea Planters’ Association and Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha.
Additionally, he stated that the government subsidy for orthodox tea would be doubled from Rs 7 to Rs 10 per kilogramme.
“Besides, all garden workers will get ration cards and we urged the gardens to take fair price shop licenses,” he added.
The state government increased the tea workers’ daily pay by Rs 38 last year.
Happy to share that in a meeting with tea associations, it was decided to hike the workers' wage by ₹27, thus raising their daily wage to ₹232 & ₹210 in Brahmaputra Valley & Barak Valley respectively.
