Assam govt official held for embezzling lakhs in major land fraud case

Guwahati, 24th June: In a significant development, Barbarooah police in Dibrugarh, Assam, have apprehended Muktiyar Hussain, a resident of Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle, on charges of embezzling lakhs of rupees through fraudulent land sales. Hussain’s arrest from Hojai follows a thorough investigation that uncovered his involvement in the illicit sale of government land using falsified records.

The investigation also led to the arrest of land broker Jayakumar Hazarika, who is currently in custody. Authorities disclosed that approximately 1,300 bighas of government land in Bogibeel were illegally sold to several affluent individuals based on fabricated land documents.

Police authorities have issued warnings that several more individuals might have unknowingly fallen victim to this extensive land fraud scheme. The arrests mark a significant step in addressing fraudulent land transactions and ensuring accountability in land management practices in the region.
