Assam Govt Seals newly-inaugurated Miya museum in Goalpara
Guwahati: The newly inaugurated Miya museum has been sealed on Tuesday by the Goalpara district administration in Assam.
The newly inaugurated Miya museum in Assam’s Goalpara district has been sealed on the same day that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma questioned the museum’s finances.
The Miya Museum’s door in Assam’s Goalpara district had a note taped on it.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the state police will look into how the money for the state’s Miya museum came to be.
Recently, a Miya museum was inaugurated at Lakhipur in Dapkarvita under Goalpara district of Assam.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that an investigation into the financing of the new Miya museum will begin soon.
The Assam Chief Minister further stated that anyone involved in the construction of the Miya museum in the Goalpara district will be subject to investigation.
According to CM Sarma, the administration of the Miya museum would be questioned about the artefacts shown there that genuinely is a part of Assamese culture.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma added that legal action will be taken against the Miya museum’s management if it failed to provide appropriate responses.
The chief minister of Assam also made a suggestion that the Miya museum might be an attempt to enslave Assamese culture.
“The Assamese people use every artefact that is on show at the Miya museum. The Assam CM hinted at a potential attempt to kidnap the Assamese culture when he remarked, “The plough tools used for capturing fish, all belong to the Assamese community.
The sole object on display in the museum that actually belongs to the Miya community, according to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, is the lungi (a multicoloured men’s skirt that is typically knotted around the lower waist below the navel).
“What’s new in it? Tools and equipment kept their belong to Assamese people except for ‘Lungi’. They must prove to government that ‘Nangol’ is used only by Miya people and not others, otherwise a case will be registered,” the Assam CM said.
He added: “The intellectuals of the state must think about it. They called me communal when I raised my voice against Miya poetry. Now Miya poetry, Miya School and even a Miya Museum is here.”
