Assam Govt suspended Assistant DC of Kamrup on bribery charges

Guwahati, 27th October: The Assistant District Commissioner of Kamrup in Assam, Dipankar Kalita, has been suspended by the state government for allegedly demanding a bribe.

He was caught red-handed by vigilant officials while seeking money to process a government file in his department.

A raid was conducted by vigilance officers, leading to his apprehension on October 16, 2023, immediately after accepting a bribe of Rs 3000 in a trap operation.

Subsequently, after gathering sufficient evidence, Dipankar Kalita was arrested and presented before the Court of Special Judges.

He was taken into police remand for four days for further investigation and necessary follow-up action.

Furthermore, the Governor of Assam, exercising conferred powers, has placed the accused officer under suspension from service, effective from the date of his arrest, until further orders.
