Assam Govt to destroy 2,479 rhino horns
Guwahati: In order to bust the myth about rhino and resultant poaching Assam government decided to destroy 2,479 rhino horns out of 2,623 horns in State Treasuries by consigning them to flames in public.
The decision was taken by the state government after a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 16 September.
The cabinet further stated that 94 rhino horns would be preserved as heritage pieces for academic purposes while 50 rhino horns would be reserved for court cases.
Here are the other key decisions taken by the Assam government in the Cabinet Meeting:
⦁ The Cabinet decided that the offline Classes for Class X students in High Schools, High Madrassas, Residential Schools and Day Boarding Schools (Both Govt and private) will be started from 20 September 2021
⦁ And authorities of such schools has been given the responsibilities to ensure that all employees and workers are fully vaccinated
⦁ Assam government said that Guwahati Medical College (GMC) will explore online Adhar-based instead of physical presence for such registration.
⦁ To benefit low-income groups The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (Licensing of Rickshaws and Rickshaw Putters) Bye-Laws, 1976″ to be repealed to the effect that there is no registration in respect of rickshaws, thetas, hand-pulled carts (used for vending), etc.
⦁ Cabinet decided to sanction Rs 379 crore towards payment of insurance premium on behalf of the farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana which will benefit lakhs of farmers in the State.
⦁ The state government decided to develop infrastructure of 12 farms under Assam Seeds Corporation Ltd.
⦁ Horticulture Nursery, Ulubari, Guwahati, and Ulubari Nursery under Assam Seeds Corporation Ltd to be converted into state-of-the-art facilities
⦁ Relaxation of qualifying service in the promotion of agriculture officers in order to strengthen and help in the effective functioning of Agriculture department
⦁ Rs 250 crore sanctioned for Assam Infrastructure Funding Agency (AIFA) for taking up infrastructure-related projects
⦁ The government announced holiday on September 17 for the State Government employees on account of Karam Puja, which is one of the major festivals for the tea tribe communities
⦁ The Cabinet further decided to create a post of “Chief Engineer PWD (Health & Education)” under Assam PWD (Building and NH) Dept. This will help expedite all health and educational infrastructure projects undertaken by the PWD in the State
