Assam Govt to issue 40 lakh new ration cards in April
Guwahati: The Assam government has decided to provide ration cards to 40 lakh residents of the state after Bohag Bihu.
Speaking to the media state cabinet minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “This time the government has decided is giving 40 lakh new ration cards to poor people in a public gathering.”
The minister also asserted that when the National Food Security Act was passed, many residents of the state who earn more per year and work for the government or in certain businesses gave up their ration cards in response to a government request.
The minister also said that although applications for ration cards have already begun, only those who pass screening would receive them after a district-level committee.
The state government of Assam took the decision to expand the service provided to the populace earlier in December 2022 with the inclusion of other perks including medical services through Ration Cards.
According to the Chief Minister, citizens will soon be able to use their Ration Cards to get cashless medical benefits worth up to Rs 5 lakh per family at government or private hospitals all across the nation. Moreover, this programme will debut in January 2023.
“Many people avail rice from their ration card, however, most people do not have the same… almost 20 per cent of people do not have ration cards.”
