Assam govt to provide financial aid for children orphaned due to COVID-19

Guwahati: The CM Shishu Seva programme has been introduced on Sunday by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to help children in the state who have lost both of their parents to Covid-19.

Addressing the media at the CM’s office at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati today, the CM declared that financial assistance of Rs 7,67,300 will be transferred in the bank accounts of children who have become orphans as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

CM Sarma said that the one-time payment must stay in the bank where it will accrue interest over a 24-year period.

He claims that after they turn 24 the children engaged in this programme will be able to access that money.

According to CM Sarma, the sum will accrue monthly interest of Rs 3,500 throughout this time.

CM Sarma explained during the conference that the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign will start on August 13. He stated that the tricolour must be hoisted or displayed in every home.

Temples, mosques, and other houses of worship must also fly flags. According to CM Sarma, the country’s flag regulation has been amended, allowing for the creation of flags using any type of fabric.

The Assam CM said, “Self-help organisations have so far sold more than 10 lakh flags, but they are unable to meet the demand of the entire state. We have purchased 59 lakh flags from the central government, which will be given in general stores to make them freely accessible to the public.”

” The price of a single flag has been set at Rs 18. We have also given instructions on how to raise and disseminate awareness of the campaign among the general public between August 2 and August 12,” he continued.

The CM further advised people to give flags to their friends, family, and neighbours, noting that those who take advantage of the state government’s Orunodoi programme will also earn a payment of Rs 1,018 for doing so.
