Assam Govt: Venture Schools to be Removed From PM POSHAN List

Guwahati: Unified District Information System for Education’s (UDISE) category of recognised/government-aided schools in Assam would no longer include any venture schools.

Additionally, all districts of Assam are hereby instructed to stop allocating rice to any schools as of April 2023 and to remove these venture schools from the PM POSHAN eligible list.

According to PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) regulations, only students enrolled in government-sponsored and NCLP (National Child Labor Project) schools in classes ranging from Bal Vatika (just before Class 1) to Class VIII are covered by PM POSHAN.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, “In Assam, there was a certain category of schools which were termed as government aided which are venture schools.”

The minister further asserted that once these schools received financial aid from the state government the procedure was not ongoing.

“As a result, the PM POSHAN which is only for government-aided schools will not benefit under this scheme,” said the minister.

According to Ranoj Pegu, the venture schools of Assamm shall continue to receive free textbooks from the state government.

Following the announcement, reportedly 7670 Assam schools will be impacted.
