Assam: Guwahati Community Reels After Fatal Building Debris Incident Claims Young Life

Guwahati: A somber cloud has descended upon Chatribari, Guwahati, following the heartbreaking death of a young girl. Papiya Barman, a local resident, tragically lost her life on March 24th, at approximately 5 PM, when a piece of stone dislodged from the upper facade of the Sifani Guesthouse struck her while she was resting.

The impact proved fatal, and the young victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Her remains have since been transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital morgue, where necessary post-mortem examinations will be conducted.

The incident has ignited a wave of distress and anger amongst Chatribari residents. Many are now questioning the structural integrity of the Sifani Guesthouse, alleging that its construction lacked the requisite legal permits. Residents claim the building was erected without proper authorization. These claims have fueled demands for a thorough investigation and strict punitive measures against those found culpable.

While official statements from local authorities are pending, it has been confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy is underway. The community awaits the findings of this inquiry, hoping for accountability and assurances that such a devastating event will not be repeated.
