Assam: Guwahati Gears Up for Grand ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ Event, PM Modi to Attend
Guwahati: Preparations are in full swing at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati for the grand cultural event, Jhumoir Binandini, which will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24.
Organized by the Assam government, the event marks the 200th anniversary of the Assam Tea Industry and aims to celebrate the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Over 8,000 artists from tea garden communities across Assam will perform the traditional Jhumoir dance in a spectacular showcase. According to Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, the event will feature 5,399 female dancers, 2,175 male dancers, and 2,074 musicians coming together for a synchronized performance.
The event is part of the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative, which aims to promote Assam’s cultural heritage while highlighting its investment potential. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a review meeting with cabinet colleagues and senior officials to oversee the final preparations. He stressed the need for seamless execution to ensure the event’s success.
State Minister Ashok Singhal also expressed enthusiasm about the event’s significance. “It is a matter of great pride that the Honorable Prime Minister will be present at this celebration of 200 years of Assam’s tea gardens. Dignitaries from across the country, including industrialists and cultural icons, will witness this grand spectacle,” he said.
With Prime Minister Modi in attendance, Jhumoir Binandini is set to be one of the most historic cultural showcases in Assam, bringing national attention to the state’s vibrant traditions and tea industry legacy.
