Assam Health Department Launches Probe into Sexual Harassment Allegations at Sribhumi Office

The Assam Health Department has initiated a formal investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against a female employee at the Sribhumi Additional CM Office. The inquiry, led by Under Secretary Anshulekha Dutta Pathak, follows a written complaint that has raised serious concerns within the department.

The complaint accuses Head Assistant Sahabuddin of making inappropriate advances and subjecting a female colleague to mental harassment. In response, a six-member committee was formed to conduct a thorough investigation. Under Secretary Pathak, accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioner responsible for the health department in Sribhumi, held a meeting at the District Commissioner’s conference hall. The discussions included key officials such as the Additional CM, the hospital superintendent, and a doctor linked to the case.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Sahabuddin had been referred to Guwahati Medical College for questioning. Additional Deputy Commissioner Minerva Arambagh confirmed that the inquiry committee had submitted its findings and emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing. She indicated that the district administration might consider escalating the case to a magistrate-level inquiry if further action is deemed necessary.

Sources suggest that Sahabuddin, fearing potential repercussions, sought refuge with Dr. Manjul Haque at Katigorah Primary Health Center in Cachar district. Dr. Haque reportedly declared him unwell and referred him to Guwahati Medical College. However, when approached by the media for comments, Dr. Haque declined to respond and swiftly departed the scene.

The case continues to attract attention as authorities intensify their efforts to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
