Assam: Heavy Rainfall Triggers Waterlogging in Haflong

Guwahati, 5th May: Once again, heavy rainfall lashed the scenic town of Haflong in Assam, exacerbating the challenges faced by its residents in the aftermath of recent flooding on May 2. The downpour, which began early this morning, resulted in widespread waterlogging across various parts of the town, further disrupting normal life and raising concerns among locals.

The deluge has left residents apprehensive, with memories of the recent devastation still fresh in their minds. Today, typically a bustling market day, saw a significant decrease in activity as people opted to stay indoors, wary of the unpredictable weather and its potential consequences.

The District Disaster Management Authority had issued prior warnings regarding the continuation of adverse weather conditions, leading to restrictions on vehicle movement within the town to ensure safety.

Adding to the concerns, the Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India, issued a specific alert highlighting Haflong and Maibang as being in the lightning zone. Residents were urged to take precautionary measures and consider relocating to safer locations to mitigate the risks associated with lightning strikes.

As Haflong grapples with the aftermath of yet another bout of heavy rainfall, residents remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and community resilience in facing such challenges.
