Assam: Heroin Worth Over Rs 10 Lakhs Recovered

Guwahati, 1st November: During a raid in Silapathar, the police in Assam’s Dhemaji district were able to collect heroin worth at over Rs 10 lakhs, marking a huge triumph in the fight against drug trafficking. Based on particular intelligence, the police carried out a late-night search at a Silapathar property and seized 249 grams of heroin, with a street worth of more than Rs 10 lakhs. At the location, the authorities also found some cash and a cell phone.

During the operation, one individual, identified as Pankaj Pait, was arrested along with the seized contraband. According to sources, the apprehended individual has a history of involvement in drug trafficking and has previously served jail time in connection with such activities.

Local law enforcement believes that this incident may be linked to a more extensive drug network in the region. Dhemaji district’s Superintendent of Police, Jikirani Mahanta, confirmed that their efforts against drug-related crimes are ongoing. The police are also conducting awareness campaigns to educate the local community about the dangers of drug abuse.
