Assam: Heroin Worth Rs 1 Crore Seized in Morigaon; Four Arrested in Major Anti-Drug Operations

Guwahati, 24th July: In a significant anti-drug operation, the Morigaon crime branch seized a large quantity of heroin valued at approximately Rs 1 crore in Barsala, Morigaon East. The raid, conducted following a night-time tip-off, led to the arrest of two individuals, Amjat Ali (37) and Abdul Hasen (55).

Amjat Ali, from Langribadi village under Moirabari police station, is the son of the late Quddus Ali, while Abdul Hasen hails from Lahripam village under Laharighat police station. Authorities discovered the suspected heroin concealed in 71 soap cases, marking a substantial breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.

Additionally, in the Margherita sub-division, a vigilant local business community helped police arrest two youths involved in drug peddling. The arrests occurred on Tuesday, July 23, at a meat shop in Ledo. Acting on a tip-off from undisclosed sources, traders at the Ledo Market intercepted the suspects, Jahangir Alam from the Itakhola area and Bakul Chen from the Matikhad area of Ledo, while they were attempting to smuggle drugs. This timely intervention by local traders highlights the community’s role in combating the drug menace.
